Snow Adventures

Perisher (NSW), Falls Creek (VIC), Remarkables & Cardrona (NZ)

High Intensiry, exhilarating, adventure, chilled vibe, cosy fires, fresh alpine air

Pre planning: book accommodation, organise travel arrangements if travelling interstate or international, pre-purchase lift tickets and hire gear if you don’t have any. Don’t forget to include chains for the car if driving. Bus tours and transfers are available from some locations if not staying on the mountain so be sure to research what’s available to suit your individual needs and budget. We always organise our own arrangements, however, there are loads of packages to assist first timers and seasoned travelers.

Trip Maps

As we have done multiple trips to snowy regions across many areas, we have highlighted where we have been on these interactive maps and will detail our trips below

1. Perisher (New South Wales)

During many of our trips to Perisher we have stayed at the following places:

Ski Adventures hot tips

1. Research accommodation first

Many sites across the snowy regions mention 5-star luxury and their accommodation represents this beautifully. But be mindful that these places come at a significant cost ($$$). We highly recommend checking out what is available and booking in advance to avoid disappointment. We have stayed in dorm style accommodation (only recommend for short stays) to 5 star luxury. Sometimes it is best to figure out what type of trip you want before booking anything

2. Gear Hire vs. Gear Buy

Best to organise before you leave, however, there are loads of places to hire gear in and around the snow fields. Over the years we have accumulated our own gear but if you are just starting out, hiring or borrowing is a suitable option. If you’re a newbie I would recommend purchasing a pair of gloves, goggles and thermals to start.

3. Ski schools/kids clubs:

Ski schools cater for beginners to those wanting to fine tune their existing capabilities. Kids clubs are available to entertain and develop those small humans that can ski and board much better than I ever will. I get the impression the parents’ love the ski school as much as the kids do.

Perisher (New South Wales)

Perisher is one of two main ski fields situated in the Jindabyne region of the Snowy Mountains, NSW.

Jindabyne is a popular destination all year round for locals and tourists as it is usually a base for those wanting to explore Kosciuszko National Park. If boating and water sports are more your thing then check out the beautiful alpine waters of Lake Jindabyne.

For those that still have energy to burn after a day on the slopes head into Jindabyne for some dinner, drinks and entertainment. Places like The Station  often host local and international artists/bands to entertain you late into the evening.

Hot tip: Hot chocolate at mid station
Hot tip: Adults only ‘agwa shot’ from Base 1720 Bar & Restaurant
Hot tip: Take a backpack with snacks
Hot tip: Get up to the ski field early to get a park because peak season can be crazy busy

Falls Creek (Victoria)

Falls Creek is located in Northeastern Victoria. We loved the ski in/ski out accommodation and being foodies we were certainly impressed by the range of places to eat. They offer nightskiing which was something we had not previously done. We did not get the opportunity to take a snowmobile tour, however, it is definitely on our list of things to do next visit. I recommend you start making your list.

Hot tip: Save some energy throughout the day to wine and dine into the evening

Cardrona & Remarkables (New Zealand)

We have absolutely loved our three trips to New Zealand and highly recommend you book a trip to NZ to experience this beautiful destination yourselves. This page is designated to our snow trip, however, you can check out our two week trip to the North and South Islands on another page.

This trip we spent with family and friends and OMG what a great time we had. We spent two weeks together but could have easily stayed longer as we had just as much fun on the ski fields as we did exploring of the slopes.

Hot tip: Cardrona Hotel is very cosy, yet quirky place to eat or drink so call in and say Gday
Hot tip: Visit Arrowtown and book in for a meal at Postmasters Cottage Cafe, you wont be sorry you did
Hot tip: Long lunch at Amisfield Bistro and Cellar Door
Hot tip: AirBnB Lake Hawea Veiw, Wanaka > breathtaking views
Hot tip: For something sweet call into Patagonia Chocolates, Arrowtown

Wrap Up

We are relatively new to the world of winter wonderland holidays as we usually prefer to stick to a warmer climate, however, after we sold our wakeboarding but we missed those action packed, high energy activities, that we could share and experience with friends. Good friends suggested we join them for a long weekend away and we jumped at the opportunity to experience something new and hit the snow for the first time.

We both enjoyed the camaraderie, laughs and physical exhaustion that come with snowboarding/skiing and needless to say we have not missed a season yet.

How We Became THE GLAMPAVanS

So who are the Glampavans? We have been married for 19 years, we have adult children whom are self sufficient, and are the proud owners of a French bulldog named Baxter. We live a very busy life like most trying to juggle full time work and a social life. We love spending time with family and friends, we have a passion for food, travel, the great outdoors and are always up for a challenge. When we hit our 40’s our perception of life changed. We no longer wanted to be a slave to our work and mortgage, we wanted to live our best life, together, sooner rather than later. We purchased a caravan and started to explore a little of this country and realised there was so much more we wanted to see. We plan to hit the road in September 2021 with our fur baby for a minimum of 12 months, however, between now and then we have planned to take some shorter adventures that we will share along the way. We will free camp when we can and also support local parks and businesses along the way
